Persuasive Legal Writing

Mr. Smith has created an interactive seminar showing lawyers how to write in the style most likely to persuade a busy judge (and please the client).

Mr. Smith teaches this seminar for the Continuing Education of the Bar (CEB) and for such firms as O'Melveny & Myers, Skadden Arps Slate Meagher & Flom, Cooley Godward Kronish, Wilson Sonsini Goodrich & Rosati, Fenwick & West, Farella Braun & Martel, and Manatt Phelps & Phillips.

Here is the seminar's Table of Contents, Chapter 1 (Brevity, Simplicity, Clarity, and Honesty), Chapter 3 (Headings), Chapter 4 (Paragraphs), Chapter 5 (Sentences) and Chapter 7 (Briefs ).

Recommendations:

"A serious effort to improve one of lawyers' most vital skills."
Prof. Jesse H. Choper, Former Dean, U.C. Berkeley School of Law (Boalt Hall)

"This manual should be required reading for every law student in America. The examples are terrific!"
Prof. Gerald F. Uelmen, Former Dean, Santa Clara University School of Law

"No book better presents how to write with the clarity and vigor demanded of the successful practitioners."
Robert M. Westberg, Pillsbury Winthrop, San Francisco

"Nothing but raves from the lawyers in my office who attended. Thanks for an engaging as well as instructive program."
J. Victor Haydel, Farella, Braun & Martel, San Francisco

"Smith's "Persuasive Legal Writing" is the lawyer's equivalent of Strunk and White's "The Elements of Style."
Prof. Alison Anderson, U.C.L.A. School of Law

"Should greatly help lawyers to clean up their well-known murk."
William Zinsser, New York (author of "On Writing Well").
